Ono River – Sawara

Located in the heart of Chiba and 15 kilometers away from Narita Airport, Sawara street and the Ono River in Katori City look like they have been frozen in time with multiple buildings from the Edo period. Like many other well preserved Edo Period streets, you will find in Sawara many houses of former merchants whose business flourished thanks to the Ono River and its many boats transporting goods to and from Edo* (*Tokyo).

Thanks to its past history, Sawara has been designated as a national preservation district, with some houses still in use as places of business or in some case turned into small museums.
