Ago Bay

Also known as the ‘bay of pearls’, Ago Bay is a stunning scenic bay located near Ise which hosts as many as 50 different islands of various sizes. Because of its unique location and its complicated coastline, Ago Bay quickly became one of the most famous pearl culture spots in Japan and this is thanks to Mikimoto Kōkichi who was the first Japanese person to ever cultivate pearls in Japan and subsequently opened its first pearl oyster farm in 1888.

But complicated coastlines and pearl culture are not Ago Bay’s only unique features. It also hosts some amazing beaches that many people around Mie and Ise are enjoying all summer long with friends and family.
