About This Video
Located by lake Towada right in the center of Aomori prefecture, this Shinto shrine is recognized as a holy place in Aomori. Built according to the authorities in 807, Towada Shrine was previously famous as being dedicated to the god of water, Azure Dragon, known as Seiryu in Japanese. However, today, the shrine now honors Yamato Takeru who was a legendary Japanese prince in the Yamato dynasty and the son of Emperor Keiko. What makes Towada Shrine so special, besides its vibrant history, is by far its amazing forest path known as “Suginami”, a shortened version of the word from the Edo period “Suginamiki”, which can be translated as “avenue of Cedars”.
