太鼓谷稲成神社
Shimane Chugoku Summer Daytime Temples & Shrines

About This Video

Located in southern Shimane in Tsuwamo, the Taikodani Inari Shrine is one of the five most important inari shrines in Japan. It is said that In 1773, the 7th feudal lord Norisada Kamei, invited the deity spirit from Kyoto’s Fushimi Inari Shrine while building Taikodani Inari Shrine on the top of Taikodani facing Tsuwano Castle as to pray for peace and security of the castle as well as for the happiness for Tsuwano’s citizens.

It is only after 1871, that the citizens of Tsuwano were able to enjoy Taikodani Inari Shrine thanks to the abolition of feudalism that effectively banned any citizens from visiting the shrine. The original approach to the shrine is made of over a thousand red gates and 273 stone steps!
