About This Video
Suga Shrine, located in Daito-cho in Unnan City, is dedicated to Susano (Susanoo), a powerful storm god and his wife Kushinada-hime (also known as Inada-hime) who both settled there after their marriage and the defeat of the Orochi (Yamata No Orochi).
Suga Shrine is also known as the birthplace of waka, a form of poetry, created by Susano himself. It’s said that Susano, while working on the building, looked up at the clouds and created the following verse: Eightfold rising clouds build an eightfold fence, an eightfold Izumo fence, wherein to keep my bride. Oh, splendid eightfold fence!
