Osaki Hachimangu Shrine

大崎八幡宮
Miyagi Tohoku Summer Daytime Temples & Shrines

About This Video

Located in Sendai city in Miyagi, Osaki Hachimangu Shrine was built in 1607 by Date Masamune himself, and yes, the same Date Masamune buried in Zuihoden Mausoleum! The shrine of the Hachiman deity, or the Shinto god of war, Hachiman is also considered as both the guardian and protector of Sendai City.

The main building consists of an Hoden or main hall, as well as an Haidenor offering hall. Both are joined under a common roof covered in Date’s unique architectural style including black lacquer, gold leaf, and brilliant colors!
