Odoriko no Sato Museum

Just a few minutes walk from Kyujinnomaru Tei, a traditional Japanese ryokan turned into an open museum (See the previous video), Odoriko no Sato is another free and open to all museum. It’s dedicated to Oshima Islands famous Odoriko or “Dancing girls”. The profession was popularly depicted in the past by the late Kawabata Yasunari, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature, in one of his most famous novels: The Dancing Girl of Izu or in Japanese: “伊豆の踊子 Izu no Odoriko”.

Active during the 1900s, this ryokan, now turned into a museum, gives you the chance to travel back in time and enjoy how such ryokan used to entertain people a hundred years ago!
