Nezu-Jinja Shrine - Tokyo

Another gorgeous temple hidden in plain sight! According to the temple’s history, the Nezu Temple or Nezu-Jinha Shrine was founded 1900 years ago by the legendary priest Yamato Takeru no Mikoto in Sendagi (Near Nippori). It was only during the Edo era that the temple was relocated to its current location. Like the Toshogu Shrine in Ueno (https://www.tokyostreetview.com/videos/ueno-park-tokyo-part-2/), the Nezu-Jinja Shrine is styled after Nikko’s Toshogu Shrine also known as Gongen or Ishinoma-zukuri, style. But perhaps the most well-known features of this temple among foreigners is its long Torii pathway (Red arch) located on the left-hand side of the temple and that it is surrounded by azalea bushes.

Note: If you want to enjoy a stunning view of the Tori tunnel surrounded by thousands of azalea flowers, the best time to visit this temple is in April.
