Komatsu Jigoku

Beppu is by far the most well-known place in Oita and basically the whole of Japan for its many Jigoku or Hell, which are actually hot springs. But, in the heart of Oita prefecture, far from the crowds and in the middle of what is possibly one of the most beautiful places around, you will find Komatsu. Granted this Jigoku is quite small but the total lack of tourists, the sheer beauty of the area and the fact that you can boil your own eggs “ad nauseam” in total peace and harmony with nature is just priceless, well granted you brought some eggs of course!

Français Beppu doit sa réputation à travers Oita, voire même dans le Japon entier, à ses nombreux Jigoku (ou Enfers) qui sont en fait des thermes. Mais au coeur de la préfecture d’Oita, loin des foules et au milieu de ce qui est le plus beau dans les environs, vous y trouverez Komatsu. Ce Jigoke est plutôt petit, mais n’est pas pris d’assault par les touristes, déborde de beauté, et vous offrira même la possibilité d’y faire bouillir vos propres oeufs en paix et en harmonie avec la nature, à conditions que vous pensiez à amener des oeufs, bien sûr!
