About This Video
Located in Karakawa Town, Izumo City in Shimane prefecture, Karakama-jinja Shrine, is an ancient shrine known for being mentioned in both the Engishiki, a Japanese book about laws and customs from 927, as well as Izumo no Kuni Fudoki which are ancient reports on provincial culture, geography, and oral tradition. Karakama-jinja Shrine is said to enshrine the Susanoo-no-mikoto deity who brought to Japan plant cultivation and iron craftwork from Silla, one of the ancient countries in what is now South Korea.
Besides its important historical value, Karakama-jinja Shrine is also famous for its unique access where you must pass through a 45cm wide crack between rocks.
