Located in the center of Akita prefecture in the city of Kakunodate, the Kakunodate samurai district, which used to house about 80 families, is one of Japan’s best examples of samurai architecture and housing.
While most of these houses remain intact only six of them are open to the public. Ishiguro’s family house is one of them. While the Ishiguro’s family still reside in this house, you will have the chance to appreciate what was once the house a powerful family of Samurai. When on display, enjoy some of Ishiguro’s family heirlooms.
