Hida Furukawa Matsuri (Part 2)

飛騨古川祭
Gifu Chubu Spring Daytime Festivals & Events Culture & Traditions

About This Video

Less violent than the Okoshi Daiko, the first part of the Hida Furukawa Matsuri, the festival float parade known as Yatai includes nine beautifully decorated floats moving through Furukawa. Each Yatai is carried and maintained by one of the Hida Furukawa city factions, generation after generation.

Each Yatai is a marvel of complexity and wonder. Many of them, including the Tonomachi faction’s float, which dates from the 17th century, feature some of Japan’s most beautiful mechanized and automated puppets.

Finally, we would like to give special thanks to all the men of the Tonomachi faction of Hida Furukawa for having us as special guests during the festival and helping us make this video possible. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!
