About This Video
Heian shrine is located in Kyoto where Heian is actually Kyoto’s former name. Sort of a “newcomer” in Kyoto, it was built in 1895 for the 1100th anniversary of the capital’s foundation and dedicated to the spirits of Emperor Kammu and Komei.
Heian shrine is famous for its giant Torii gate which is located far away from the shrine itself. It overlooks a quite popular road where many cars and trucks zip by every day. Heian shrine also features a paid garden (not on this video) with a beautiful pound and a gorgeous little wooden bridge.
