Hanitsu Jinja

土津神社
Fukushima Tohoku Winter Daytime Temples & Shrines

About This Video

Hanitsu Jinja is one of Aizuwakamatsu (Fukushima) shrines that honor Aizu ’s first feudal lord, Masayuki Hoshina. Built-in 1675, the Shrine was at that time a gorgeous and opulent shrine often compared to Nikko’s Toshogu Shrine. Unfortunately destroyed during the Boshin War, it is only in 1880 that Hanitsu Jinja was rebuilt, and unfortunately for us today, in following a less opulent and more humble design, and with the recent addition of a 7.6m high and 30 tons metal Torii gate in honor of Masayuki Hoshina.
