Gogan-Ji Temple

Located in the small streets of Nakatsu city in Oita prefecture, Gogan-Ji temple has been made famous by opposing the sitting lord and Samurai Utsunomiya Shigefusa, who died during the battle between Kuroda Kambei the newly appointed lord of the nearby Nakatsu castle. The battles were of such extreme violence that several dozen soldiers and Samurais died inside and around the temple ground leaving unremovable bloodstains on the temples white walls forever forcing the temple owners to paint those walls red.
