About This Video
Maybe one of Oita’s best-known temples, Futago-ji, is located in the Kunisaki Peninsula and was built in 718 A.D. by Ninmon. Futagoji is also famous for its two Nio Guardian figures build in hard stone and capable of withstanding whatever mother nature can throw them at.
Right in the middle of the temple ground, you will find its main hall, known as the Gomado Hall. Dedicated to Fudomyoo, a protector of Buddhism, and the Okunoin Hall, it enshrines the thousand-armed Kannon Bodhisattva.
On a side note, Oita is famous across Japan for its Toriten or Tori tempura, a delicacy that is, as far as we are concerned, much tastier and delicate than karaage. One of the best restaurants offering Toriten in Oita is located just next to the temple : 両子河原座 (Futagokawaraza, +81-978-64-6305), check it out!
