Visiting a temple often means going through the “omikuji process”: picking up a little sheet of paper on which is written od good or bad omen. If it’s good, take it away with you. If it’s bad, tie it to the rack and leave it behind, along with the bad luck it bears. Nobody really loses at this lottery… that’s a good business model.
