Matsue is a beautiful city located in Shimane prefecture, on the shores of lake Shinji. Among other things the city has a wonderful little castle, one of the very few authentic ones left in Japan. Only 12 of them survived throughout the country. Most Castles you’ll see are reconstitutions, often meant to look like the original castle and nothing else. Inside you’ll find modern floors and elevators. Not in Matsue. This one was a purely military building and was constructed in 1611.
