Kamikura Jinja is a little shrine located halfway up Mount Gongenyama. It is said that the Gods first came to Earth through this very temple, and brought the fire as a gift to humans. To celebrate this, a ceremony is held every year; the Oto matsuri consists in making dozens of participants recently down hill, using a little bit more than 500 uneven and steep stone stairs… all this while carrying a torch.
