Kamigoten is one of those unbelievable places you may find in Wakayama. This inn was established in 1657 so that a shogun could enjoy the precious hot springs of Ryujin Onsen. Since then, the ryokan has been run by the same family… for 29 generations ! If you’re lucky you may even sleep in the shogun’s room, a unique piece of Japanese design.
The ryokan has an indoor bath and an outdoor one. Both are fabulous. I fell in love with the inside one, for its atmosphere, its colors, its reflections.
