The Gate Bridge was a very expensive project completed in 2011 and opened to circulation in 2012. Its particular design sometimes results in this bridge being nicknamed the Dinosaur Bridge, as it may look like two dinosaurs fighting each other. This shape was indeed the answer to two major constraints: the bridge had to be tall enough to let big cargo ships sail under, and low enough not to interfere with air traffic of the nearby Haneda airport.
