Sagano Romantic Train

The Sagano Romantic Train, also known as the Sagano Scenic Railway or Sagano Torokko, is a sightseeing train line that runs along the Hozugawa River between Kyoto Arashiyama and Kameoka.

Originally designed to connect the cities of Kyoto and Kameoka, the train now caters exclusively to tourists. Since 1989, passengers can enjoy one of Kyoto’s most gorgeous valleys and rivers, Hozugawa, while riding in a good, old-fashioned rail car, either open or closed. Extremely popular during the autumn foliage season, the Sagano Romantic Train is actually a joy to ride all year long. To make your trip even more fantastic make sure to book in advance your return to Kyoto by boat via Kameoka’s unique and fantastic Hozugawa river boat ride shuttles!
