Mount Takao (The Sakura Guide)

The Spot

Located fifty minutes away from Shinjuku by train, Mount Takao, or Takaosan, is surprisingly still located in Tokyo. This small (599m) yet extremely popular mountain receives around 2.5 million visitors each year for its eight different hiking courses. Featuring many temples and a dense forest, Mount Takao will surprise you with its large variety of sakura trees. Note that despite being pretty accessible, comfortable walking shoes should be preferred to high heels as a few of the trails can be somewhat challenging.
