Aikido Experience with Matsumaru Sensei

Despite being one of Japan’s most famous martial arts, Aikido in its actual current form is a rather new sport that was founded in the 1930s at the Aikikai Hombu Dojo by Ueshiba Morihei (1883 – 1969). It wasn’t until after the second world war however, that Aikido really boomed and started to spread across Japan. While there are many places across that nation where you can learn Aikido, we had the chance to visit one of Tokyo’s oldest dojo (1955) the Kuwamori Dojo and meet with one of its most respected teachers : Matsumaru Sensei – 松丸 裕 (now 78 years old) who kindly allowed us to tag along during a private lesson at the dojo.
